Fall is without a doubt my favorite time of the year! It's when nature, design and food ALL come together. Having moved to Nashville, I now get to actually experience fall in all it's glory. Leaves change from green to rich vibrant reds, gold and oranges. The air is crisp and everywhere you go you can practically smell a fireplace burning.
That said, I'm creating a series of posts entitled "Fall-ify Your Home." This will be a compilation of vlogs sharing my favorite fall trends, home styling tips, hosting/entertaining ideas and perhaps a few warm and fuzzy cocktail recipes- cause ya know we all need a little relaxation come Friday.
Lets get started, FALL COLORS. You want to create that designer look you see in magazines, departments stores, HGTV, and nice hotels. But how do you do it? How do you turn your affordable decor (old & new), into a cozy, well-curated holiday home? It all starts with color!
Color is the foundation of a well-styled room. Your natural instinct may be to grab items that have the traditional gold, red and orange tones. But what if you could reuse, say some of those summer pinks, blues, purples and even introduce black and gray? The key is to blend your saturated, deeper colors with the softer earth tones. Don't be afraid to mix and match. The more unexpected (yet consistent) the combination, the more unique your home will feel.
Blue, peach, terra cotta, plum and teal are some of my favorite colors to mix in with your standard earth tones. An easy way to establish a color theme for your home is to head to your local hardware store and pick up several paint sample chips. Hone in on your color combo and takes these chips with you when you shop for decor. This way you stay consistent in color and theme.
Remember there's nothing wrong with a monochromatic approach to fall decor. I, too, love the traditional fall earth tones. I'm simply encouraging you to get inspired by numerous shades and hues within the color spectrum that surrounds us every day.
Stay tuned for the next Fall-ify post! We'll be talking faux flowers. Yup, that picture above is all fake! I know, I know.... fresh is best- however faux flowers have come alooooooong way. I'll give you some key notes to deciphering which faux flowers have the most realistic look, where to find them and, of course, we'll chat unique fall floral combos.
