Client Garden Party: Summer Hosting Tips

Updated: Aug 28, 2019

Summer Is officially here! If you live in Tennessee then you're dying a little each day from the heat... I certainly am... Nevertheless it's time to create some beautiful tablescapes, whip up a fabulous cocktail or two, and gather with friends and family.

Here at TDS we celebrated the switch in seasons by hosting a Client Appreciation Garden Party.

It was our first to date. Without a doubt we will certainly be hosting another! The evening was filled with great company, tasty food and a botanical inspired backdrop.

Many people avoid throwing larger parties due to the work and cleanup involved. Hosting, however, can be fun. You can feel confident and well-organized, rather than stressed and flustered.

The secret is in the proper prep work. If you properly plan ahead you, too can enjoy a relaxing time with your guests, rather than being flustered and disorganized.

Before we begin planning the details of the party we focus first on the theme, menu and ambiance.

THEME - Solidifying the theme even before your guest list may help to decide who you would like to attend, and what the location should be.

We wanted a garden theme, so our newly renovated deck was the perfect location. It's personable, warm and the kitchen is close by. This familiarity and accessibility greatly helped reduce our stress.

MENU - No good party is complete without a fabulous menu. Take some time to plan this thoughtfully. A well-curated menu will go a long way, maybe even more so than the setting itself. We are hard-wired to remember food in relation to events, weddings etc... Make a lasting impression; good food is always remembered!

We opted for an international feel. Ceviche, Cilantro Lime Rice, Mexican Chicken Tinga, Roasted Tuscan Veggies, and a beautiful dessert charcuterie board. YUP, those are blueberries on a bamboo toothpick. So cute and easy to handle.

AMBIANCE - This is where you get creative and let the special details shine through. It was garden theme so a wall of cascading flowers felt appropriate! We used a wooden dowel, fresh flowers, and clear jewelry wire from Michael's to create this look. It was VERY simple, incredibly beautiful, and the first thing people commented on!

DRANK IT UP - We used functional brass and glass canisters to hold the water and non alcoholic drinks. This beautiful handmade rattan bar cart from Red Egg stored all the wine, wineglasses and extra utensils down below.

Sprinkle fresh flowers or herbs on top of the ice, voila, instant charm.

Bar carts should not only be stylish but functional as well. Notice it has as built in ice holder. It has a matching lid so you can store all your alcohol on top, for a more "traditional" look.

The detail and craftsmanship in this piece is exquisite. It's constructed from quality materials and will last for years to come. If interested in a bar cart like this (customizable to any color) pease email us directly at design@thurmandesignstudio.biz subject "Bar Cart".

Cocktails are another area you can really get creative. Plus if they're made with fruit the colors will add a layer of vibrancy. Don't assume all guests drink alcohol, be sure to have on hand alcoholic and a non-alcoholic option.

Hibiscus Mint Martini
