Movin On Up: We're Selling Our Home!
Yes, you heard right, the Thurman's are embarking on a new adventure - we're moving into a new house. We are sharing this bitter sweet moment in hopes that you may spread the word to friends and family in the Nashville area looking to purchase a home.
This transition is one of joy and a little sadness. Almost three years ago we received the keys to this house and within 30 minutes I had my workers on site ready to begin renovation. We started first with the living room, kitchen and dining room.
No home is complete without a warm front entryway. When it's a smaller area, this is the perfect place to pack a punch and get creative.
We removed the old carpet and installed a new thinner pile carpet that was more durable and had a nice pattern. The handrails were pretty old basically falling apart. We opted for a modern custom wood railing and painted it black. Affordable, durable and stylish.
The living room was originally closed off to the dining and kitchen. So we opened up that dividing wall. New white oak engineered hardwood floors throughout, and fresh paint laid the foundation for the design.
The wall we removed was load barring and thus needed to have a beam put in place for structural support. We couldn't afford a solid wood beam so we used standard construction materials and cladded it with the same material as the floors. I have to admit it turned out better than expected hah.
The bling bling crystal and frosted glass chandeliers had to go! Lighting is one of my favorite elements in a space because it can add such personality and whimsy. Even though this house was a simple spec home it has been transformed, and funky light fixtures played big role.
I'm not generally a fan of smooth fireplaces with very shallow trim and mantels. We painted the hearth brick white, added some architectural dimension and modernized it a bit.
The dining room is now visible from the living room which means time to adds some interest. I love a dramatic ceiling and so we painted ours a flat black (Sherwin William Caviar SW6990) and added a ceiling medallion.
I never suggest to clients that they live in their home while renovating (like we did). It's a lot to handle and when it comes to your kitchen- look out, you may just gain a couple pounds until it's complete. We CERTAINLY did. It was however worth it in the end. A new kitchen complete with custom cabinetry, unique blend of finishes and ample storage.
Our countertops are a blend of walnut butcher block and white quarts with grey veining.
The bonus room over the garage was the perfect place to put the Design Studio. Industrial pendants, new flooring and paint was all it needed. Instead of traditional closet doors we put floor to ceiling drapes to cover up the laundry area that is also in the bonus room.
Welcome to our 2 guest bedrooms. One is an office for hubby the other a cozy room for friends and family. Simple cosmetic fixes here and we were set.
ALL those books and baseball cards uhhggg... I am not to blame.
Cue the relaxing master bedroom. During the day the room is flooded with natural light. The vaulted ceiling are a bonus and add to the spaciousness of this room.
Believe it or not our master bathroom was completed a week ago- actually we are installing the glass shower door this week so...
We used the guest bathroom shower for years and finally got to the master.
It is a moroccan oasis filled with luxury details and beautiful materials.
Last but not least is the deck. The house had an existing deck but we expanded it, partially enclosed it and gave it a little facelift.
This house is fully renovated and filled with unique design elements, it has taken great care of us. So why are we moving? Both Thurman Design Studio and my husbands business are growing and we need more space. My mom is retiring and will be moving in with us. An addition to our household that I am very excited for. We have already found a house and now it's time to sell this one.
We are having an Open House this Sunday September 22nd @ 2:00-4:00pm
