INTERIOR DESIGN CONSULTATION
IT'S THAT TIME!
Fall is quickly approaching, it's a time for hearth, gatherings, and an overall sense of coziness. HOME, has never been more important and meaningful than in this present moment. Does your space need an upgrade, or improvement in its functionality and comfortability?
If you're considering tackling a design project in the coming months (before the holidays), now is the time to get started! While the interior design industry has never been busier, Covid has placed upon it some unique challenges, a few of which are product demand and delays.
UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENCE
Off The Shelf
"Off the Shelf" as we like to refer to it are the mainstream retail stores ie: West Elm, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware and the like. Typically these are manufactured overseas and produced in bulk. You're most likely purchasing from such vendors due to lower price points, local or online accessibility and in-stock inventory.
These goods have a 3.5 if not 4x markup on them. You may also be purchasing from these vendors because you're not overly concerned with custom or one of a kind pieces. Sticking with inexpensive, trendy and not expensive is your motto.
The behind the scenes of these retailers is that the product is produced in third world countries, in factories with harsh conditions. Many of which expose and promote child labor.
To the Trade
Quality & Exclusive
On the flip side you have "Trade" products. In the interior design world, the word "trade" is used to describe a special partnership or relationship between manufacturer and designer-only. This is a private relationship not directly open to the consumer. Hundreds of thousands of companies produce product such as furniture, rugs, lighting, etc..., to strictly be sold to designers, who use the exclusive product to source for our clients projects. These products are better quality, may have longer lead times and have endless custom fabrication options. When purchasing product through a designer, you're benefiting from our years of vendor relationships and products that are unique, and less mainstream.
As interior designers we aim to combine $$$$ high - $$$ low products to maximize our clients budget while maintaining product integrity.
THE CLIENT BUZZ
We contracted Laura Thurman to help us with a full renovation of our condo in Charlotte. Laura was attentive to our needs, budget, and style while guiding us to new trends in design. She successfully created for us a perfect balance between style and comfort. We couldn't be happier with the results and highly recommend Thurman Design Studio for any design project big or small!

Project Budget: $50,000 - $100,000
Laura Thurman is an extremely talented designer and likeable, down-to-earth person. She first had me use Pinterest to learn my style preferences and did a great job communicating with me throughout the project. She helped expand our budget by purchasing high/low and updated our look with a blend of custom furniture, online purchases and use of our existing pieces. We absolutely love the outcome!

Project Budget: $10,000 - $49,999
We recently completed our 2nd project with Laura this past December. This job was considerably larger than the last and on a considerably larger scale. The house was under construction and Laura was so helpful in working with the builder so that all of the interior finishes were perfect. With her architectural background, she was very quick to point out any flaws in the builders workmanship.
When this project kicked off in the summer, I was concerned the look and feel of the house would be similar, if not exact, to the previous job--but it was not. Laura really listened to what each of us wanted (Note--there are different tastes in my household). The library and the bar were reflective of my style and Laura really delivered. The living areas and bedrooms are very pretty, functional and comfortable. Once again, very pleased with how the house turned out. Thanks Laura!

Project Budget: more than $250,000+
Laura's vision is amazing! She took the time to understand my needs, communicated promptly and stayed within my budget. My space went from dark and bare to modern, stylish and welcoming. The end result was beyond my greatest expectations and I absolutely love my newly designed living room and dining room.
